How to Transfer Your Domain to HarmonWeb

The domain transfer process is straightforward. Follow these five steps and your domain will be fully under HarmonWeb management within a few days.

1

Unlock Your Domain

Log into your current registrar and unlock your domain for transfer. Most registrars have a domain lock or transfer protection setting in account or domain settings. Also confirm that your registered contact email address is up to date, as transfer notifications will be sent there.

2

Get Your Authorization Code

Request the EPP code, also called an authorization code or transfer key, from your current registrar. This code is required to authorize the transfer and proves that you are the domain owner initiating the move. Most registrars provide this instantly via email or through the account dashboard.

3

Submit Transfer Request

Contact our team through the HarmonWeb contact page or your account, enter your domain name and provide your authorization code. We initiate the transfer request on your behalf and handle the technical submission to the registry.

4

Confirm the Transfer

You will receive a confirmation email at your registered contact address from either HarmonWeb or the domain registry. Open the email and approve the transfer request to allow the process to proceed. Approving promptly speeds up completion.

5

Transfer Complete

Once approved, the transfer processes within five to seven days depending on your domain extension and registry policies. Your domain is then fully managed through HarmonWeb, your DNS settings are preserved, and your registration period is extended by one year in most cases.

Things to Know Before You Transfer

A few important points to review before initiating a domain transfer to ensure the process goes smoothly.

Transfer Eligibility

Domains must be at least 60 days old from the date of registration or most recent transfer to be eligible for transfer. Domains that are under a dispute, legal hold, or registry lock are not eligible until those conditions are resolved.

Renewal on Transfer

Most domain transfers include a one-year extension added to your current registration period. This means transferring does not cost you any existing registration time, your expiry date moves forward by a full year from its current value.

No Downtime

Your DNS records are preserved throughout the transfer process. Your website, email, and other services continue to operate normally during and after the transfer. We coordinate the process carefully to minimize any risk of service disruption.

Domain Transfer Questions Answered

Common questions about transferring a domain to HarmonWeb from another registrar.

Most domain transfers complete within five to seven calendar days from the time the transfer is confirmed by you. The exact duration depends on the domain extension and the registry involved. Some ccTLD transfers (such as .ng or .com.ng) may have slightly different timelines governed by their specific registry policies. If a transfer takes longer than expected, our support team will follow up with the registry on your behalf.
No. Your DNS records are maintained throughout the transfer process. Your website, email, and any other services tied to the domain continue to operate normally during the transfer period. The transfer is a change of registrar only, it does not affect your DNS configuration or the servers your domain currently points to unless you choose to update them after the transfer is complete.
Transfer failures are uncommon but can occur for a few reasons, most often because the domain is still locked at the current registrar, the authorization code has expired, or the confirmation email was not approved in time. If your transfer fails, we will notify you immediately and provide clear instructions on what to do next. In most cases, the issue is resolved quickly and the transfer can be re-initiated at no additional cost.
Yes, domain transfers are charged at the standard transfer price for your domain extension, which is comparable to or lower than the annual renewal rate. Importantly, the transfer includes a one-year registration extension, so you are effectively paying for an additional year of ownership while also moving registrars. You can view transfer pricing for all supported extensions on our Domain Pricing page.
